Enrichment Fridays

A few weeks ago we studied Aesop's Fables in Unit's 9 and 10 of Preparing Hearts for His Glory. I couldn't help but capture this opportunity to make a mini project out of these fables. I had a series of coloring books with simpler modified versions of some of the fables we were reading. So I decided to copy the pages for Caterpillar to color as we were enjoying storytime. When we were finished at the end of unit 10, we put together notebook pages of Caterpillar's work.
We read The Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables illustrated by Don Daily. The selections in this book are from some of the best-loved classic fables written by Aesop. The magnificent full-color illustrations bring to life these naughty, brave, bold and lovable creatures. It is truly an excellent book to add to your personal library.
Here is a list of the fables we were able to compile in our project, along with the moral discussed from each selection. This was truly a memorable time for both of us!

The Fox and the Grapes
It's easy to speak badly of things you cannot have.

The City Mouse and the Country Mouse
To each his own.

The Goose Who Laid the Golden Eggs
Greed destroys the source of good.

The Cat and the Bell
It is easy to think of impossible solutions.

The Bull and the Bullfrog
Stretch your arm no farther than your sleeve will reach.

The Tortoise and the Hare
Slow and steady wins the race.

The Lion and the Mouse
Little friends may become great friends.

The Frogs Who Desired a King
When you desire to change your condition,
make sure that you can really improve it.

I'm rather jealous of all the great coloring your caterpillar will do. My kids think they are being slowly boiled in oil when forced to color. Sigh. What is wrong with them??? LOL.

We are HUGE Aesop Fable fans here. We love the edition illustrated by Pinkney.
