Preparing Hearts for His Glory: Unit 8

This week we have continued our study of the Israelites, Egypt and the Promised Land. We have studied about Joshua leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, and conquering Jericho. In our studies we have learned how God was giving the Israelites the victories they needed to take the Promised Land. We have also read in the book of Judges. Here the people were living in the land, but not in obedience to God. Whenever the Israelites turned to idol worship, God would bring another nation against them. Once things reached a point where they couldn't take it anymore, they cried out to God. Then God would raise up a leader to fight for them. This happened over and over. We see this in the story of Gideon, Samuel and Saul, as well as David, son of Jesse. God is so faithful to His people!



The Ark of the Covenant was kept in the Most Holy Place. Only the high priests could enter. God was separated from his people this way, yet the Ark traveled with them to show God was always with them.

The written narration assignment this week was from the story of David.

An Excellent Leader

God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse to annoint the next king. God chose the youngest son named David. It's what was in a man's heart that God was looking for. When David fought the Philistine Giant Goliath, he understood that God would give the victory. King David was different from Saul because he put his faith and trust in God.

Over the last few weeks while studying Egypt, Caterpillar has enjoyed learning about the desert habitat. He has learned the collard lizard faces the sun to soak up as much heat as possible to stay warm at night. As the desert becomes cold at night, some animals find shelter underground and in the saguaro cactus to stay warm. There are many dangers at night in the desert, including rattlesnakes, scorpions, tarantulas, giant centipedes, gila monsters and black widows. At night the desert air cools the rocks and cactuses. When temperatures get lower than the dewpoint, water (moisture in the air) condenses and forms dew! Be careful, you never know what you will discover in the desert!
