Preparing Hearts for His Glory: Unit 10

According to the legend of the Trojan horse, the Greek king Odysseus gave the Trojans a giant wooden horse. The Trojans thought it was a peace offering, but it was really a trick. After they brought it into their city, Greek soldiers, who had been hiding inside the horse, came out. They let other soldiers into the city and burned the city of Troy down. Along with the legend of the Trojan horse, comes the old saying, "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts."

Caterpillar also added to his timeline this week.

We learned about the First Olympic Games, which were held in 776 B.C. They were held in honor of the Greek god Zeus. Only men competed in the games. The games were a way of keeping the soldiers in shape. From this came some great discussions about good sportsmanship, and prizing God above all!

The written narration assignment this week was about the founding of Rome. Caterpillar was quite impressed by the story! Here is his narration.

The Legend of Rome

There is an old, famous legend about the founding of Rome. Aeneas fled from Troy as it was burning and went to Italy. He met the daughter of the country's ruler. Aeneas and Lavinia were married and lived happily ever after. Twins were born in their family line named Romulus and Remus. They were put into a basket into the Tiber River and drifted ashore. A mother wolf nursed them and a shepherd raised them as his own sons. Each wished to build a city, but could not agree. Romulus killed his own brother Remus, and built a city by the Tiber River. He named it Roma after himself, and the people who lived there were called Romans.

We have begun reading The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Bible.

We are discovering that fossils are often incomplete, and bones can be missing or damaged. Different creatures are mixed together, and we are are merely guessing about what they really looked like. We have never seen a real live dinosaur, thus we cannot be sure what their skin, flesh type and color were really like.

God created all creatures, including dinosaurs. The book of Job gives clear descriptions of the behemoth. It is described with strength in it's legs, power in the muscles of it's belly, and a tail that sways like a tall cedar! God designed every part of every animal, right down to the smallest cell.
