Preparing Hearts for His Glory: Unit 14

It has been another great week for us. We are thoroughly enjoying the richness of Heart of Dakota!

We have learned so much about the Ancient Indian and Chinese people and cultures this week. Caterpillar enjoyed reading about the Indian prince Gautama and learning about the caste system. He was happy to know that it is illegal today, as we are all God's people! We discovered the similarities and differences to Confucius' Golden Rule and what Jesus said in Luke 6:31. "Do to others as you would have them do to you." This led to some great discussions about being a christian and what that really means!

Here are our timeline entries for the week.

The history project was definitely a favorite this week. Instead of making index cards, we created some notebook pages about The Silk Road and silk making. We found some maps to show where ancient trade routes were, and compared them to current maps of today. The indians were prized for their spices, and the chinese for their silk. Caterpillar's written narration was on Horatius, a Roman king.

Horatius

Horatius commanded his Roman army to destroy the wooden bridge that crossed the Tiber River. He wanted to stop the Etruscans from crossing into Rome. While the Romans tore down the bridge, Horatius fought the entire Etruscan army. As the bridge  was cracking, Horatius ordered his two friends to run back to the other side. Horatius jumped into the Tiber River and swam to the Roman side safely. Everyone cheered for him!

In science we continued reading The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Bible. Caterpillar discovered there were great creatures in the Bible.

"There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.
There the ships go to and fro,
and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there."

Psalm 104:25-26

We also enjoyed reading more about the leviathan in Job 41.

In our science experiment we built many dinosaurs with marshmallows and drinking straws. The length of a dinosaur's neck and tail help to keep it balanced. God designed each dinosaur carefully, so it could walk and eat with balance.
