As a mother, I am forever trying to impart wisdom to my son. Caterpillar, as most normal boys, listens to the wisdom, and then gives it a test-drive. He wonders to himself, "Does this really work? Does this really apply to me?" He experiments and explores life to its fullest. He is a BOY!
Yet the Lord is full of grace! And by His mercy, we are covered in His grace! How do I know this you may ask? Recently, Caterpillar and I were out for lunch. I suggested to him to place his napkin in his lap. Without hesitation, Caterpillar looked up and kindly replied, "Thank you Mommy for that wisdom."
I knew then, that imparting wisdom fervently does bear fruit. It is a life long process in all of us, is it not?

HILARIOUS and sooo true!! Sounds like you have a handle on that young man.
Thankfully, God gives us, Moms, wisdom when we ask and doesn't find fault. I sooo need it.
