After a wonderful Christmas break, it was good to get back into our school routine. Overall, our week went very well, with minimal whining! Yeah! However, we are back in full swing with life too, and keeping up with schoolwork and extra appointments and extra-curricular activities can be a balancing act! About our week...
Caterpillar learned the Ancient Chinese keeping the process of making silk a secret for over 2,000 years! He was amazed they could keep a secret that long, but did not think that death was a fair punishment for breaking the secret! We also learned that China began one of the first zoos. King Wen collected animals from all over his kingdom and kept them near his palace in a "Garden of Intelligence." This completed our lessons in Draw and Write through History. We are looking forward to using the next book in this series in the future! Here are his drawings of a silkworm moth, and a giant panda.
Daniel lived at the time of Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, Mede and Cyrus. Angelic messengers revealed to Daniel the future of the Israelites. We journeyed with king Xerxes and the Persians, the Spartans, and Athenians. We built a trireme, and it has been played with to 'death', thus it is no longer feeling very photogenic. Caterpillar's written narration was about the rebuilding of Athens.
The Golden Age
King Xerxes had burned down the city of Athens. This turned out to be a good thing because the Greeks rebuilt a finer, more beautiful city. The main leader, Pericles, helped the Athenians become wise and great artists, writers and philosophers. During the Golden Age, they made wonderful statues of Greek gods and goddesses and placed them on beautiful buildings, theatres and temples. The people of Ancient Greece were pagans, as the did not worship the one true God of the Bible.
In science we finished The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Bible. This book has done a wonderful job in answering the many questions about dinosaurs we had! The leviathan was quite the creature... We have begun a new subject, constellations. This will be our focus for the next several weeks as we continue to journey through Greece and Rome. I can only wait with great anticipation of the wonderful discussions that will come forth. How great is our God!

Sounds like a great week! I love the pictures and the written narration. I'm wishing Lydia had been able to do Preparing as you are hitting a greater variety of civilizations then what CTC covers.
