As mere simple human beings, we are ordinary, yet unique, fearfully and wonderfully made in His Image.
The Lord knows the plans He has for us. It is not by chance that we are here. We are here because He has ordained every step of our lives. Today is special to me, because it is my birthday. Everyone's birthday is special; however, I am forever grateful for the wonderful life the Lord has blessed me with.
When I was born, my birthmother was never able to hold me. She went through the pains of labor, yet never had the opportunity to hold me. She unselfishly relinqished me, so that I could have a future. At that point in her life, it was best for her to give me up for adoption.
One month and three days later, I was adopted by my wonderful parents. The Lord knew exactly who were the best parents to raise me. I grew up in the most loving and caring Christian home any little girl could wish for. I was richly blessed, much more than I realized during my childhood. I grew up, went to college, graduated, became gainfully employed, and married. I have a wonderful husband. We have a precious son we love dearly.
Throughout the years, I had wondered who my birthmother was. What did she look like? Was she like me? All the normal questions adoptees ask. My parents were always supportive, patient and understanding of my curiosity. When our son was born, my life changed, our lives changed. It was the miracle of life. God had richly blessed us with one of His gifts to take care of.
Then I got it. It made sense. It all came full circle. I HAD to thank this woman, whoever she was, for what SHE had done for ME!
I spoke with my husband. I spoke with my Maman. We prayed. I searched. God led.
After about five months, I received an answer to an email. I had found her.
After 35 years, my birthmother finally knew who I was. She had kept her story deep inside her heart all this time. Now, nine years later, our lives are even more richly blessed! I have three other sisters and a brother. It has been an amazing journey, this journey we call life.
So today, on my birthday, I am thankful for my Maman, my Daddy and my Marmy. I am thankful for my wonderful husband and precious son. I am thankful for the incredible family and friends I have in my life.
I am forever thankful for ordinary miracles.
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."
Psalm 139:13-16
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11
